Vol. 01 · The Compounds
Folio III · The Compounds

Every compound. Trial-equivalent doses.

From the editors. No proprietary blends. Every milligram is on the label, dosed at the level used in the clinical research it is based on. Read line by line.

Lion's Mane

Hericium erinaceus · organic fruiting body
500 mg · 30% beta-glucans

The most-studied mushroom for cognitive function. Lion's Mane contains hericenones and erinacines — compounds shown to stimulate Nerve Growth Factor (NGF) in vitro and in animal studies. Human trials in older adults with mild cognitive concerns show modest but consistent improvements in cognitive scores over 16-week courses.

JOB · Support neural plasticity and cognitive function.
STUDIES · Mori 2009, Saitsu 2019.

Cordyceps

Cordyceps sinensis · organic fruiting body
500 mg · 7% cordycepic acid

A traditional adaptogen with research evidence for ATP production and cellular energy metabolism. Particularly studied for endurance and mental stamina endpoints — useful during sustained cognitive work or training periods. Used in Chinese medicine for over 2,000 years.

JOB · Support cellular energy and sustained mental endurance.
STUDIES · Chen 2010, Hirsch 2017.

Reishi

Ganoderma lucidum · organic fruiting body
500 mg · 30% polysaccharides

Among the most-studied adaptogenic mushrooms for stress modulation. Reishi's triterpenes and polysaccharides have been studied for cortisol regulation, sleep quality, and immune function — three layers that underpin sustained cognitive clarity.

JOB · Modulate stress response; support sleep architecture.
STUDIES · Wachtel-Galor 2011, Chu 2012.

Bacopa Monnieri

50% bacosides · standardised extract
300 mg · standardised extract

A well-studied nootropic with the largest evidence base for memory and learning endpoints in healthy adults. The bacosides are believed to support cholinergic function and synaptic plasticity. Effects accumulate over 8-12 weeks of consistent use — Bacopa is not a fast-acting compound.

JOB · Support memory consolidation and learning.
STUDIES · Stough 2008, Calabrese 2008.

L-Theanine

From green tea · Suntheanine
200 mg

An amino acid that promotes calm focus without sedation. Studied extensively for combined effects with caffeine — together producing improved focus without the jittery edge of caffeine alone. Effective within 30-45 minutes of consumption.

JOB · Support calm, sustained focus; reduce caffeine-related anxiety.
STUDIES · Owen 2008, Haskell 2008.
§ II — What's Not In Here

A short list, on purpose.

The editors left a lot of common cognitive-support stalwarts out of the formula. Here is why.

Not Included · 01

Caffeine

Not in Claros. The editors chose to keep the formula non-stimulant — pair the formula with your usual coffee or tea if you want the caffeine + L-theanine combination, without forcing the dose into the formula.

Not Included · 02

Modafinil-style racetams

Synthetic nootropics (piracetam, aniracetam, etc.) — outside the regulatory framework for food supplements in the U.S., and outside the editors' evidence comfort zone for daily use.

Not Included · 03

Mycelium-on-grain extracts

Cheaper than fruiting body, but with substantially lower beta-glucan and active-compound content. The editors use only fruiting-body extracts.
