Vol. 01 · The Mechanism
Folio II · The Mechanism

The mechanism, in three sections.

From the editors. Claros works on three mechanisms with reasonable evidence behind them. Read them in any order — they are complementary by design, not redundant.

§ I — Acute Focus

Acute focus support — within 30-60 minutes.

L-theanine, an amino acid found in tea, increases alpha-wave brain activity and modulates several neurotransmitter systems. Paired with caffeine (your morning coffee), it produces what users describe as "calm focus" — improved cognitive performance with reduced jittery edge.

The effect is direct and immediate, and the trial evidence base is solid. Multiple double-blind studies show L-theanine + caffeine outperforming caffeine alone on attention and cognitive performance tasks.

Owen et al., 2008 — Double-blind trial: 50mg caffeine, 100mg L-theanine, both, or neither. Combination outperformed caffeine alone on attention switching and reduced subjective jitteriness.

§ II — Slow-Burn Neural Maintenance

Slow-burn neural maintenance — 4-12 weeks.

Lion's Mane and Bacopa work over weeks rather than hours. Lion's Mane stimulates Nerve Growth Factor (NGF), supporting neural plasticity and brain maintenance. Bacopa supports cholinergic function and memory consolidation through bacoside-mediated effects on synaptic plasticity.

Both have replicated trial evidence for cognitive endpoints in healthy adults — at doses used in published research, over 12-week courses. Effect sizes are modest individually; combined they support the brain's own maintenance processes meaningfully.

Mori 2009 · Stough 2008 — Lion's Mane 3g/day for 16 weeks improved cognitive function scores in adults with mild concerns. Bacopa 300mg standardised extract for 12 weeks improved working-memory measures in healthy adults.

§ III — Stress Modulation

Stress modulation and recovery.

Cordyceps and Reishi are the formula's adaptogenic mushrooms. Cordyceps supports cellular energy and sustained mental endurance through ATP-related mechanisms. Reishi modulates the stress response, supports sleep architecture, and contributes to cognitive resilience under sustained challenge.

Together, they round out the formula's effects beyond pure nootropic action — supporting the systemic conditions (sleep, stress, energy) that cognitive function depends on.

§ IV — Caveats

What Claros is not.

The editors would rather be precise about what the formula is — and what it isn't. Four caveats worth reading before subscribing.

No. 01

Not a treatment for any specific condition.

Claros is a daily food supplement designed to support cognitive function in healthy adults. It is not a treatment for dementia, Alzheimer's disease, ADHD, or any other diagnosed condition.

No. 02

Not a stimulant.

There's no caffeine in Claros. The cognitive support comes from underlying brain function rather than stimulant arousal. Pair with your usual coffee or tea for synergy.

No. 03

Not a fast-acting product (mostly).

L-theanine produces same-day effects. The other actives — Lion's Mane, Cordyceps, Reishi, Bacopa — work over weeks. The full effect of the formula expresses around the 12-week mark.

No. 04

Real interactions exist.

Bacopa may modestly affect thyroid medication absorption; Reishi has mild interactions with anticoagulants. If you're on any prescribed medication, please discuss with your doctor before starting.
